Excerpt:
“Are you prepared for the task at hand, young Nicholas?” The Gatekeeper asked the young Healer. Nicholas, still hearing the young girl’s cries, nodded once and stepped up to the Gate.
The Gatekeeper put one of his wrinkled, fragile hands on Nicholas’s shoulder. Nicholas looked at him in silence, ready for his task. His golden eyes glowed as the picture of the young girl—hair like chestnut brown silk—burned in the back of his mind. He saw the cuts, bruises and scars in depth, like an endless pit of torture for the girl no more than sixteen years old.
“The path will lead you to the girl,” the Gatekeeper explained firmly. His eyes set on Nicholas’s. “The drop down will only lead difficulties to the weak. I presume you are stronger than that for the Heir to have assigned you?”
Nicholas nodded, not saying a word to the Gatekeeper. His mind was sent on pictures of the girl he was set to save, look over and protect. His heart, filled with determination, allowed no words to be said.
The Gatekeeper removed his hand from Nicholas’s shoulder and took a step back. Nicholas met his eyes and watched as the Gatekeeper nodded once for good luck. Nicholas knew better than to only rely on luck. Being that the Heir assigned him to the girl, he knew his mission was full of something far deeper than saving a girl in despair. The Prophecy only showed that Nicholas save the girl from the darkness, but Nicholas knew better.
Saving the young girl with the beautiful tanned skin, deep set brown eyes and long, flowing hair was only the first step. With the Light Kingdom and the Heir, there was sure to be more.
With one last tip of the head, the Gatekeeper opened the Gate, and Nicholas fell between the clouds to earth. Plummeting in nothing but air, Nicholas spread his enchanting white wings that gave him the opportunity to travel to the surface.
Falling like a feather, the night engulfed the Heroin Healer, consuming his power in the atmosphere. The Power of the Halo hid his six foot figure as he made his way to earth, looking only like a shooting star to mortal eyes.
Nicholas’s power swept the surface as he landed, and he glanced in front of him where he observed a large mansion consumed in darkness. From inside, he heard the cries of the young girl followed by shattered glass.
A tattered sign came into view.
Welcome to the North Wing
What inspired you to write Engulfed?
I love reading about Angels and Demons. It’s been an obsession of mine recently, so I decided to write my own version of Light-vs-Dark. I had a lot of different versions of the story that I ended up combining to make this book what it is.
Tell me a bit about your main character, Ebony…is she based on anyone you know?
Ebony Falls is a very conflicted teenage girl. Her whole life is important to the Light and Dark balance. She is the key to power, and she can just as easily destroy the world as save it. Her mind is haunted with her fate, and she’s very strong when it comes down to getting the answers she needs. I named my character after my friend, because I love the name Ebony. I think it’s unique and it really fits the character Ebony Falls turned out to be.
Have you written the next two titles in the trilogy? Anticipated release date?
I am almost done writing the second installment, and it’s called Embraced. I haven’t set in stone when I would like it to be released, but I’m hoping by the end of the year or early 2015. I haven’t named or started the third book, but I began brainstorming what is going to happen.
How old were you when you wrote your debut novel ’Til Death Do Us Part (Fearless Series)? And, did you sit down with the intent of writing a whole book?
I was fifteen, turning sixteen when I wrote ‘Til Death Do Us Part. It actually started as a short story. I never expected it to be as long as it is.
What did it feel like when you found out you were an Amazon bestselling author? (Was this with ‘Til Death Do Us Part?)
I was surprised when ‘Til Death Do Us Part ranked #2 in the fiction/paranormal category it was in on Amazon. December had a lot of sales with the book, and it was so sudden. I didn’t expect it at all. It was out a year without much life to it, and all of a sudden, it just hit. What is disappointing about the matter is that within the next morning the rank skyrocketed. I only got one snapshot and I have nothing else to show for it. Nothing really changed. The rank never lowered again since.
What writers/artists have influenced you?
I have a lot of influential authors. Wendy Higgins and Jennifer Armentrout are my top two. I love both of their work, and I love how open they are to talk about certain things in the business. It really helps to get big-name authors to help the little ones to be something so much bigger.
Tell me a little about your writing process. Do you outline? Write in sequence?
My teachers always scold me about saying this, but I don’t outline. I used to do a little character outline, but even that I stopped doing. I’ll jot down notes in my school notebooks whenever I get them so I don’t forget. Sometimes it’ll be dialogue, or maybe a really important scene to add into whatever project I’m working on. My process really isn’t that complicated. Whatever comes to mind, I write it down in a notebook or on the computer. I work off of it from there, and then once the first draft is done I go back and edit it. I add/delete things, fix grammar and spelling errors. After two rounds of editing, I submit to my agent/editor and she goes through it and it keeps on going from there. (What they do I’m not an expert at, but they fix the manuscript up nicely!)
As a high school senior, how do you find time to write? Do you work on more than one series at a time?
I’d be lying if I said that I have plenty of time to do school, hang out with friends, keep up on homework and writing. I really don’t have a life like most other teenagers do. Sometimes I get so stressed I wonder why I added being an author to my list of “to-do.” I do write more than one story at a time. Currently, I have three different projects going. It can get confusing if I’m not in the right mindset, but it works out in the end.
Plus I have school – homework, tests to study for and my grades to keep up. Not to mention the exciting joy of college/financial aid applications and getting prepared for fall semester of college. I also work at a motel, or will be soon since it’s seasonal. It gets really crazy and sometimes overwhelming. I really only hang out with my friend once a month, sometimes not even that, but I’m devoted to my writing career. It’s what I’m pursuing in college and after college. Writing is more than a hobby to me.
What has been the most incredible experience / least favorite experience in this process?
The most nerve-racking experience in the writing process is editing. I despise editing. I have so many problems with tense use and grammar. The most incredible experience is the feeling of accomplishment once you’re done writing your book. When it’s out, though, I get so nervous about what people will say. I care deeply about what people think, so sharing my work with the world is both a great/terrifying feeling.
What advice would you give aspiring writers/authors?
I have such cheesy advice. Be yourself. Write what you want to write and not what you think will sell. A lot of people will write in genres that they don’t like or aren’t comfortable in because it’s what is currently popular. But everything has phases, and everything goes full circle eventually. Write what you love to write about, and be yourself when you do it. That’s the most important advice I can give anybody.
Red's Randomness

Jennifer Armentrout. She is hilarious, I think she’d be quite the entertainment.
Who’s your favorite book character of all time?
I have so many, but the first that pops into mind is Kaidan Rowe from Wendy Higgins’s Sweet Evil. (I sigh for Kai.)
Favorite hobby other than writing?
Does sleeping count? I love to sleep.
Are you a cat person or dog person?
I love them both, but I feel like I currently gravitate toward cats.
